Carlow were flying it last season. Flying it. Their first two or three months in Division 2A left them right up at the top, sure contenders for promotion if not eventual winners, before the wheels started to come off after the Christmas break.
Carlow ultimately fell to third, level on points with Railyway Union in second and behind eventual winners Portlaoise. The draw against New Bridge after Christmas was a big drop of points, followed by a narrow defeat on the road to Edenderry; play-offs missed, promotion off the table.
Pre-season has been mixed to some degree, included losses against Tullow and Kilkenny in the South East League, but with the club going agonisingly close last time out, they’ll surely be looking to make amends and get back into the 1B mix again.
While everyone would like a home fixture to start, Carlow take to the road on Sunday 25 September to meet Cill Dara in Silken Thomas Park before closing out the regular season at home to 2A newcomers Longford, relegated from 1B last season.
