Can Tullow do the double?

Leading the way in Division 1B at the moment, defending champions Tullow are in the pot for the first round of the 2018 Provincial Towns Cup draw this Saturday alongside Kilkenny and Carlow. While the league ticks along into the spring, all three local sides will be looking to put in a decent run of games in the Cup this time out.

Tullow took the crown this past Easter with a dominating 20-3 victory over Skerries with Kilkenny and Carlow exiting in the early stages. Kilkenny would go on to claim the Provincial Towns Plate and are also in the running for the Kilkenny Club of the Year, with voting here until Wednesday.

This year’s draw takes place at Bank of Ireland Ballsbridge at 1pm on Saturday with 29 teams in the mix.

Those chasing the coveted jug for 2018 are Arklow RFC, Ashbourne RFC, Athy RFC, Balbriggan RFC, Boyne RFC, Cill Dara RFC, Clondalkin RFC, County Carlow FC, Dundalk RFC, Edenderry RFC, Enniscorthy RFC, Gorey RFC, Kilkenny RFC, Longford RFC, Midlands Warriors RFC, Mullingar RFC, Naas RFC 2nd XV, Navan RFC 2nd XV, New Ross RFC, Newbridge RFC,, North Kildare RFC, Portarlington RFC, Portlaoise RFC, Roscrea RFC Skerries RFC 2nd XV, Tullamore RFC 2nd XV, Tullow RFC, Wexford Wanderers RFC and Wicklow RFC.

The first round of games will take place on Sunday 21 January. Round two (11 February), round three (18 March) and the semi-finals (1 April) all lead up to this year’s final on Sunday 15 April.
