While it may be a day Thomastown will want to forget, it’s one Evergreen will certainly cherish as they capped their 2022 season by retaining the KCLR McCalmont Cup.

Three goals in a five-minute first-half blitz through Mikey Drennan (31), Mark Slater (33) and Ben Hickey (36) meant Thomastown would have a mountain to climb in the second half.

With chances few and far between for Thomastown after the restart, Evergreen would net a fourth through David Grincill (83), introduced in the 76th minute. An Evergreen corner was flicked on from the near post by Mark Slater, straight onto the head of Grincell who couldn’t miss from short range.

The result means Evergreen are your KCLR McCalmont Cup champions for the fifth straight time, their 18th win in the competition’s history.
