Carlow IT Hurling manager DJ Carey says that defeating UL in last weeks Quarter-Final of the Fitzgibbon Cup was phenomenal.
Speaking to KCLR ahead of tomorrow’s Semi-Final clash against UCC, DJ says the last few years have proven that IT Carlow are a top team.
“We would originally have been hoping to have gotten a home quarter-final against the runners-up in that group, but as it turns out, we ended up with the same points as Mary I in our group, but lost out on score difference so we had to go to UL and probably focused the minds a lot.
“Like Carlow IT are very decent, they are a very good team and we played 23, 24 matches over the last three years and lost two maybe three at the most so we would have been hard to beat no matter what but obviously beating UL was phenomenal”
DJ added that Marty Kavanagh and James Doyle are a very important part of the IT Carlow set-up.
“Yeah, those guys are invaluable. I am working with those guys now for 4 years, and Carlow have great talent. James Doyle and Marty Kavanagh are fantastic players and a vital part of our set-up.
“James Doyle is playing with a broken nose at the moment. He broke his nose with us in a match with us a couple of weeks ago and that is just the level of determination but with no little hurling and skill as well”
