Ahead of this Thursday’s Streets of Kilkenny 5K, organisers Kilkenny City Harriers are asking as many people as possible to collect their race number on Wednesday evening at The Watershed between 5.30pm and 7pm to reduce pressure and queues on Thursday evening.
Registration for the now annual road race event, part of the Peugeot Race Series, has attracted almost 900 participants this year – and counting – with signups still available online at KCH.ie. While it might be too late to get one of the fancy race t-shirts, €20 will have you registered and running this Thursday evening. The fast and relatively flat course often gives road-running enthusiasts the chance to hit a PB on a 5k distance.
Collection points for race numbers and t-shirts will also be available on Thursday evening from 5.30pm on The Parade with the 5k underway from 7.30pm.

If you needed any more tempting, there is a €1,500 prize pot to be shared among the top finishers.

A prize-giving will be held immediately after the the race at the Streets of Kilkenny 5K after-party being held in Langton House Hotel on John Street.
Route details
The 5k is split over two laps as details below.
For lap 1, start on The Parade. Run down the Parade and along High Street proceed along High street, Parliament Street, into Irish Town. Turn right onto St Canice’s Place, run straight over St Francis’ Bridge along the new road to the Castlecomer Road junction, and turn right. Run along the Castlecomer Road to the roundabout at the Hebron Road junction, turn right and run down John Street upper, keep running down John Street, over Johns’s bridge into Rose Inn Street.
Rose Inn Street is divided into two lanes. Keep to the right-hand lane along Rose Inn Street and take a right turn back up High Street to complete Lap 2. (as per lap 1)
Upon the completion of Lap 2 as you re-enter Rose Inn Street, keep to the left-hand lane and turn left back up the parade to the finish line.
