Carlow ready to take advantage of Wexford’s league streak

With Carlow opening their Leinster Football Championship account for 2017 this weekend, former senior footballer Willie Quinlan reckons Turlough O’Brien’s men are ready and able to take advantage of Wexford’s losing momentum at the end of the league.

The sides are due to meet in Netwatch Cullen Parkon Sunday afternoon with Quinlan suggesting Carlow have a lot going in their favour.

“For the first year”, says Quinlan, “I would say in a long time we have probably the best twenty five that we have could possibly have within the County”

“Bar maybe one or two, but we are very close to it.”

“Fitness won’t be a problem. I think Wexford are after shooting themselves in the foot a little bit because they came to Carlow and got turned over. They got beaten in the League Final by Westmeath and it can be very hard [to come back]. It’s not just a turn of a switch where you can switch it and you can go from turning poor football to turn out play your best football.”

We’ll have live commentary and analysis this Sunday afternoon at 3pm in Netwatch Cullen Park as Carlow and Wexford meet in the opening round of the Leinster Football Championship with thanks to Flynn’s Carlow Nissan, the home of Nissan in Carlow.
