St. Mullins’ Coogan to use early round games to iron out best championship team

St. Mullins manager Willie Coogan says they will be taking their 3 games seriously in the preliminary round of the Carlow Championship despite knowing they are going to be semi-finalists.

Speaking to KCLR Willie says they will be using the three games to use their strongest team possible in the later rounds.

“Different teams may approach it differently”, said Coogan on Wednesday.

“I don’t know what way the other teams are going to approach it, but I suppose the way I am looking at it is that you only have three games to prepare yourself for that Semi-Final. I imagine there will be an element of people looking at other players that maybe haven’t seen as much game time over the last number of years.”

“For me, I am trying to get what I feel is our strongest team on a given day out on the field and seeing how they do because we only have three games. Obviously I am new to the set-up this year, so it’s a case of seeing what we have there and tweaking it then maybe as we go forward to a semi-final then later in the year”

Carlow’s senior club hurling championship gets underway this weekend with just four clubs represented.

St. Mullins get their campaign underway on Saturday evening at 7.30pm in Netwatch Cullen Park, taking on Naomh Eoin Myshall.

On Sunday at the same time and venue it’s the turn of Mount Leinster Rangers and Ballinkillen.
