Kilkenny Under-20 Hurling Manager DJ Carey says that Teams like Carlow should be given an extended run in the Leinster Championship to give them a chance to be able to improve.

Speaking to KCLR, DJ says that the weaker counties will only improve by playing against teams of a higher quality.

He said “Let’s try and improve teams and get them up there and get a Championship going and let the Christy Ring and Joe McDonagh Cups, let them produce other teams that are coming along rather than this yo-yo effect that is going to be up and down the one teams for a number for years, get up and play against better teams because you can only improve by playing against better teams, you won’t improve by playing against teams at your own level or weaker than you”.
