Bagenalstown Gaels Junior Hurling Manager James Whelan says that the Under-20 Championship in Carlow is not working and that the County Board needs to look at the way the competition is structured.
A number of the Bagenalstown Gaels are involved in today’s (Sunday) County Final showdown against St. Mullins, and speaking to KCLR, James says that a Under-19 Championship in Carlow needs to be considered to give Under-age players more games around their own age group.
He said “Our County Board will probably have to look at something in the near future maybe of throwing in an Under-19 Championship, or something really because I honestly don’t think the Under-20 Championship is working because like when you were finished (Under)17 years ago like there was an awful step-up from a 17-year-old which was eligible to play Under-21, now I know it’s Under-2o now like but still it’s a big gap 3 years”.
