Kilkenny’s FAI development officer Dean Broaders says there is a concern that younger people will drop off from the sport due to the pandemic.
He was speaking on scoreline as young people return to training this week as Covid-19 restrictions are eased and says there’s a huge gap in time between competitions and training brought about by the lockdowns.
He feels that younger people are more affected by this as there are many demands for other sports happening too:
“I just think that it’s one of these situations where it was unavoidable, there’s nothing we could have done,” said Dean.
“The best thing we can do now is try to catch up as quickly as possible and try and provide ways of bridging the gap and catching up by the time things get back to normal”.
“Out of any sportsperson’s life, that’s a huge gap so, you’re just hoping that at best that a lot of kids have kept themselves ticking over and that they can pick up where they left off” he added.
