Carlow man Tom Daly you must feel is in with a shout of getting called into Andy Farrell’s Ireland squad for their summer international games Japan and the United States.

Tom has played every game for Connacht this season and had put in huge performances consistently for the province culminating in captaining them to a win over Munster in the Rainbow Cup in Thomond Park recently.

Tom did have a call from Andy Farrell ahead of the Six Nations and was told that he was “very close” to being selected but received some feedback from Andy which he got to work on.

Connacht’s Bundee Aki has been selected for the lions as has Leinster’s Robbie Henshaw, meaning that it improves the chances of Tom being called up as they play the number 12 position.

Speaking on The Knock On Rugby podcast here on scoreline, Tom says his chances have gotten greater.

“The likes of Garry Ringrose who I thought should have got selected for the lions and didn’t, he’ll obviously be in there and there are other guys playing well in other provinces,” said Tom.

“When Bundee was selected and I saw Robbie (Henshaw) and Bundee both going on the lions, it probably gave me that little bit of extra hope because that’s two number 12’s gone from the Ireland squad”.

“I was probably the person celebrating most in the squad when I saw Bundee getting selected after himself, so that was good news”.
