Joseph O’Brien trained ‘Twilight Payment’ comes up short at the Melbourne Cup

There was no joy for the Joseph O’Brien trained ‘Twilight Payment’ at the Melbourne Cup this morning.

Last year’s winner came home in 11th place behind this year’s champion, the Chris Waller trained 17 to 1 shot ‘Verry Elleegant’ – ridden by James McDonald.

Jockey James McDonald onboard Verry Elleegant sprinted away from the field to claim the Flemington showpiece.

The Chris Waller-trained mare added a 10th Group One win to her record as she saw off favourite Incentivise by four lengths in the two-mile feature on Tuesday morning.

Joseph O’Brien flew out for the race.
