Carlow’s footballers fell to a second straight defeat in the National Football League at the weekend, losing out to Sligo away.
Carlow was on the wrong end of a 0-28 to 0-05 result which puts the brakes on any promotional hopes this season.
Before the game, the team sheet looked unfamiliar in ways as there was a huge number of players missing through injury and other reasons for this game, with five players making their debut in the red, yellow, and green for the game.
This is on top of 10 new players introduced the week before against London
Carlow manager Niall Carew says it was going to be hard for a young team like that to get one over on Sligo.
“You’d feel sorry for the new lads coming in with only one established player on each line,” said Niall.
“It was a big ask for them, I’m disappointed with the performance, the result, with that team we had out, they were all new footballers, and our journey is completely different now, we’re only beginning on this journey with Carlow”.
“It’s going to take a good year to see these lads and get them into S&C (strength and conditioning) shape as an inter-county footballer and mentally on top of that” he added.
Carlow has a break this weekend before their next game.
