It’s the day of days on the hurling front.
Sunday sees Croke Park set to welcome Kilkenny and Limerick, along with over 80,000 hurling fans, for this year’s All-Ireland senior hurling championship final.
It’s the first championship meeting of the sides since the 2019 semi-final, Kilkenny edging that one 1-21 to 2-17. Limerick had the better of Kilkenny in 2018, knocking them out at the quarter-final stages en route to bringing the Liam MacCarthy Cup back to the Treaty county. Before that, you’re going back to 1973 when Limerick last beat Kilkenny in the championship, such was the dominance of the Cats in the noughties, including the 2007 All-Ireland final.
History and stats won’t matter on Sunday though as it all comes down to 70 minutes in potential sweltering conditions at GAA HQ.
Ahead of the game, the GAA have released the following matchday information.
All-Ireland Final Matchday Information
- With no minor game and Clonliffe College no longer available for car parking, supporters are asked to plan their journey and arrive early to the stadium where turnstiles will be open from the earlier time of 1pm.
- The Gardai have advised that severe parking restrictions will be in place.
- Pre-match musical entertainment will be provided by Hermitage Green and Ronan Tynan and the Artane School of Music, and the jubilee teams of Clare (1995 & 1997) and Wexford (1996) will be introduced to the crowd in the build-up to the game.
- As the country is again mindful of the plight of Ukrainian refugees who have fled to Ireland, there will be an acknowledgment of the work being done to support these refugees by clubs and communities.
- The Liam MacCarthy Cup will be brought onto the field and placed on its plinth by Ukrainian children.
- The Association will also mark the 175th anniversary of the birth of Michael Cusack who was a driving force behind the formation of the GAA in 1884.
- Amhrán na bhFiann will be performed by Artane and it will be signed by Senan Dunne and Caroline O’Leary.
- Patrons are also advised to be aware of the current weather forecast for the weekend, which is for extremely warm conditions. The teams will have an additional water carrier in operation on match day.
- After the impact of Covid-19 in recent years, Sunday’s attendance will be the largest at an All-Ireland senior final since 2019 after a Covid capacity of 40,000 was in place last season.

Those intending to travel are urged to consider the following:
- Use public transport at ALL times were possible and active travel
- Clonliffe College is no longer available
- Use Dublin Park and Ride Facilities

- Coach Parking – Alfie Byrne Rd drop off – via Port Tunnel
- DCC Parking Enforcement will be in operation for all match days until the end of the season overseeing clamping, towing and the issuing of fixed charged penalty notices where required.
