The esteemed Chloe Magee, Ireland’s premier female badminton player and three-time Olympian, is set to grace Kilkenny College for an exclusive coaching session.
With a commendable turnout of 56 women, Magee is on a mission to impart her wealth of knowledge and experience to aspiring players eager to follow in her footsteps.
Magee’s visit marks her recent appointment as Badminton Ireland’s Women in Sport Officer and National Development Manager. This dual role underlines her commitment to fostering the growth and development of badminton, especially among women, in the country.
The coaching session promised to be a unique opportunity for local players to learn from one of the most decorated badminton players Ireland has ever produced. Magee’s journey in the sport has been nothing short of remarkable, representing Ireland at the Olympic Games three times – in 2008 Beijing, 2012 London, and 2016 Rio de Janeiro.
Notably, at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, Chloe Magee etched her name in the annals of Irish sports history by becoming the first Irish woman to secure a badminton victory at the Olympic Games. Her achievements have positioned her as the “poster girl for Irish badminton,” inspiring a new generation of players to take up the sport.
In addition to her accomplishments, Magee, along with her brother Sam Magee, clinched a bronze medal at the 2017 European Championships, marking Ireland’s first-ever medal at the European Badminton Championship. The dynamic sibling duo also secured bronze at the 2015 and 2019 European Games, further solidifying their status as badminton powerhouses on the international stage.
Joining Chloe Magee for this momentous occasion is Garry Kehoe, a familiar face in Ireland’s sports scene known for his boxing exploits with Marble City Boxing and the national team. Kehoe, who also operates in a significant role for Badminton Ireland, brings his wealth of experience and expertise to complement Magee’s coaching efforts.
As the badminton community in Kilkenny eagerly anticipates this exclusive coaching session, fans, and aspiring players alike can look forward to gaining valuable insights and techniques from Chloe Magee and Garry Kehoe.
