Normally at KCLR we bring you coverage of the football Championship from the Semi Final stage. However this year we are committed to trying to bring you every match possible from the Carlow Senior Football Championship. Last week we covered three games from Netwatch Cullen Park while this week we will be broadcasting all four championship games. Before we look ahead to this weeks games, Willie Quinlan, one of Carlow’s longest-serving footballers and KCLR commentator looks back at the opening round games.

Old Leighlin v Ballinabranna

It was proably the pick of the weekend. Stephen Scallon in the goal, three 45’s and put the three over. Sean Bambrick up and down the field scored 1-2, young james Dowling aswell. Tadgh Roche who was a defender moved to centre forward was the difference on the night with that pace carrying the ball forward.

Final Score : Old Leighlin 2-12 v 0-13 Ballinabranna

Eire Og v O’Hanrahans

O’Hanrahans will be disappointed with their start but it was always going to be difficult playing Eire Og. They have contested a Leinster Senior Final in the last two years and now going for five in a row while still building with alot of young players. Their biggest strength is their bench, alot of players to come on and younger players behind that. Eire Og will be happy with the game, but they were not even at their best.

Final Score : Eire Og 7-13 v 0-08 O’Hanrahans

Tinryland v Palatine

Started off for Tinryland really really well, got a couple of points on the board. Palatine got the goal at just the right time though just to put space between the sides. The little bit of experience that Pal showed in the second half, just to tag over a point, tag over a point. Keeping lots of men behind the ball, they turned over Tinryland several times going forward and that was the difference, Tinryland just could not get the scores at the end of the day.

Final Score : Tinryland 0-09 v 1-11 Palatine

Mount Leinster Rangers v Rathvilly

At half time it looked to be over 0-07 to 0-01. We would of thought Rathvilly would push onto win by 13 or 14 points, but it was not the case.. Rangers came back into it, Diarmuid Byrne kicking four frees then a superb goal by John Nolan where he struck the corner of the net. Unfortunately it was too little to late. They have had a huge celebration only winning their Hurling Senior Championship so they looked a bit leggy. Rathvilly though will be disappointed with their performance.

Final Score : Mount Leinster Rangers 1-06 v 1-08 Rathvilly
