Actor, writer, director, model, drummer, author and jiu-jitsu black belt holder. Baz Black certainly possesses a sturdy CV.
However, while the Dubliner is a man of many skills, film is where his passion lies.
He has begun an intensive training regime for his upcoming role as a cage fighter for a film that will be coming to a cinema near you quite soon (hopefully).
A man of many abilities, Black told KCLR’s Sunday Scoreline that his sporting background has been beneficial in preparing him for the new role.
“I think the discipline involved in martial arts is very similar to everything that I’ve done since.
“It really grounded me and set a good foundation in place for me,” said Black.
While he is a proud holder of a black belt in jiu-jitsu, the actor revealed that his sporting career was no longer feasible once he moved into film.
“I had to put the martial arts in the back seat after I went into acting and it wasn’t possible for me to continue training for 6 days a week.”

He also outlined the intensive training schedule that goes into preparing for his new role as a cage fighter.
He said: “It’s getting back to the cardio and the circuit training to get into proper shape for the movie.
“It’s not something that I enjoy but it’s something that has to be done for the job.”
Black went on to describe the way in which he keeps himself active on set where actors can be kept waiting for hours upon end.
“I try to watch my diet and bring resistance bands with me while on set but if you’re playing a cage fighter like I am all of the training has to be done prior to shooting the movie.”
