Rower Inistioge will continue to plan without Darragh Joyce for the foreseeable with the Kilkenny native landing a new deal in the Australian Football League.

The 25-year-old linked up with St. Kilda’s as a Category B rookie in 2016 but was delisted by the AFL outfit at the end of last summer. It had been thought Kilkenny would be calling last winter, however, with Brisbane deciding to place Marcus Adams on their inactive list, Joyce was invited to train with the Lions in recent weeks and has since secured a permanent deal .

He won’t be the only Irishman in Brisbane with the Lions securing the services of Conor McKenna in December alongside Dubliner James Madden.

“We’re really pleased to have Darragh on board to help bolster our defence”, Brisbane Lions general manager football, Danny Daly, told the club’s official website.

We’ve been watching his journey over the past few years, and we feel confident he can play a role in our team.“We see Darragh as a great fit for our Club given his toughness around the contest, and he comes to us with some valuable experience from having been in the AFL system over the past six years.”

Joyce’s contact is for one year.
