Local Trainer Pat Fahy says that his apprentice female jockey Sarah Kavanagh is an ambitious jockey on the way up.
The Leighlinbridge native trained Nuaffe to win the Thyestes Chase in Gowran Park 25 years ago back in 1994, and speaking to KCLR ahead of the big local day of racing, Pat says that Rachael has been the ultimate role model for all aspiring female jockeys.
“Sarah started with us about two months ago. She’s a very ambitious girl, very good rider, very balanced rider and willing to learn” said the local trainer.
“Rachael is after lifting the bar and helping all the young girls, if I took on a girl before Rachael (as an apprentice) it wouldn’t be acceptable, but Rachael has made it that it is, and everybody knows now that it’s very possible for a girl to be as good as the guys”.
He added “Rachael has proven that and she is better than a lot of them”
