Basketball Ireland has received guidance in relation to Tuesday’s government restrictions, which has been obtained by Sport Ireland.
Among those is confirmation that organised indoor training and sports summer camps can take place in multiple pods of 6, once sufficient space is available and strict public health protocols are in place.
Sporting events and matches can continue to be played behind closed doors, however the 6-person indoor participant restrictions do not apply to competition, events or tournaments.
The news is sure to delight Lucy Coogan of Kilkenny Stars basketball who has been named on the Ireland U18 WOMENS team , after going through the ranks last year.
Lucy had been training with U16 Ireland team and was due to represent her country in European championships in Bosnia July 2020 but everything stopped once Covid 19 took over. With the opportunity to earn an Ireland cap been taken away but now after working hard during lockdown Lucy has made the U18 Womens team due to play in European championships in Austria July 2021 .
Lucy and her mother Eithna will be joining us on KCLR Sunday scoreline from 5pm this weekend.
