Ireland flanker Sean O’Brien has been cited by independent citing commissioner Dougie Hunter (Scotland) for an alleged act of foul play contrary to Law 10.4(a) during yesterday’s Pool D decider with France.
Law 10.4(a) deals with striking and the citing relates to an incident involving Sean O’Brien and France lock Pascal Pape during the opening minute of the game at the Millennium Stadium.
The hearing will take place at 1pm tomorrow at the offices of RWC 2015 official law firm Clifford Chance in London. The case will be heard by independent judicial officer Terry Willis (Australia).
The news comes as a huge blow for Ireland as they could be missing the Tullow man for next weekends World Cup Quarter Final against Argentina.
Ireland have already lost Jared Payne and Peter O Mahony to injury with updates still to come for Paul O Connell and Johnny Sexton.
