“You just get stuck in” – Carlow manager Niall Carew says there’s no scientific approach to a return to action

Carlow’s aspirations for promotion from Division 4 of the Allianz National Football League came to an end following a 0-14 to 0-08 defeat against Longford last Saturday.

With this loss, their hopes for advancing to a higher division have been extinguished as they head into the final round of their league campaign.

The Barrowsiders are set to host London this Sunday at 1 pm in what will be the concluding match of their league season. Despite their promotion hopes being dashed, manager Niall Carew remains focused on the significance of a victory in this fixture.

According to Carew, securing a win against London holds considerable importance for Carlow as it will determine their seeding for the Tailteann Cup. Carew expressed his satisfaction with his team’s perseverance, emphasizing the importance of securing the third seeding spot rather than facing a more challenging draw in the competition.

In Carew’s own words, “It’s a carrot for us.” He highlighted the significance of this match as part of the team’s preparation for the upcoming Leinster Championship, where they are scheduled to face Wexford two weeks later. With this fixture against London serving as their final preparatory game before the championship, Carew stressed the importance of ending their league campaign on a positive note.

As Carlow gears up for their clash against London, supporters can catch the live commentary of the game on KCLR this Sunday, thanks to Dan Morrissey and Co.
