It’s safe to say that Carlow Gaa’s club and county 50/50 Barrowside Challenge has been a big success.
The fundraiser finished this week and they raised a grand total of €78,688 going to the clubs and county.
To get there, over 60 members in total from Carlow GAA and clubs across the county set out on the June Bank Holiday weekend to walk a 5k.
The individuals taking part had to raise sponsorships money from whoever they could and a race ensued to see who could raise the most and which club could raise the most.
The Winners
The club with the most money raised was Old Leighlin with €10,756 and the person to raise the most cash was Myshall man and Carlow Gaa legend Tommy Murphy with €5,645.
It was a race to the finish though as Johnny Nevin representing Old Leighlin came home with €5,026.
Our own Brendan Hennessy came 5th overall with €3,010.
It’s been a tough year and a half for the county and its clubs with the normal fundraisers taking a back seat to covid regulations however this one enabled people to get out and do their thing and all in a safe manner.
Congratulations to everyone who took part and those who donated as well.
