Carlow senior footballer’s scheduled game with Westmeath tomorrow has now been canceled.
This was due to be the second round of the O’Byrne Cup after Carlow fell to Kildare in the opening fixture
Barrowsiders manager Niall Carew spoke to Scoreline and outlined the various issues that came into play when deciding to go ahead with the fixture or not.
“We just could not play it, we have four lads out with covid, you are only looking 36 hours since our last game. Then six lads had played Sigurson before that as well. Physically it wasn’t possible.”
“I couldn’t not subject to play the game half injured because I have one eye on London. the numbers just did not stack up, it just was not possible. It just did not add up.”
“You would be suiting no one and it certainly would not be suiting Carlow football.”
You can catch the full interview where Niall discusses the loss to Kildare and plans for the upcoming season on Saturday Scoreline tomorrow on KCLR or Sunday night on Scoreline Extra.
