It was a fantastic weekend for Carlow Muay Thai as they had three representatives on the Irish Muay thai Team. As a country we had 8 fighters competing, 5 of which reached the podium. The Carlow club had three fighters on the Irish team, Kevin Kavanagh at senior level, Chloe Black and Alfie Black at junior level.
Kevin fought a very tough Hungarian, István Kurdy losing by a close margin. Kevin is set to go again, this time he off to Poland at the end of February to compete in an international event there.
Alfie Black claim silver in his first tournament at this level. He fought his way through to the final by beating a Lithuania and Moldovian to meet a very good Belgium fighter Wassim Sallami a great fight with fantastic technique for such a young fighter losing a close points decision.
Chloe Black, KCLR Regular and veteran at these events met a very tough Belarus fighter Yakubouskaya Anhelina who is current European Champion. Chloe lost the first round, but showed great heart and experience to win the next two rounds and win Ireland’s only gold. Great win for Chloe and fantastic achievement by the Carlow club to complete at such a high standard.
