Former Carlow Senior Footballer Willie Quinlan says there needs to be more emphasis on the forward line if they are to continue their progression.

Carlow begin life in Division 3 of the National League with a home clash against Sligo and speaking to KCLR, Willie says they will need to improve their scoring totals if they are to progress.

He told KCLR Sport “They (Carlow) were very very defensive the first two years that he (Turlough O Brien) has been there”.

“You would like to see them maybe getting three maybe four forwards and sticking with four forwards and maybe if they drop two defensive, but they definitely need to get more men attacking because in Division 3 it’s going to be different”.

Willie said “If you are only scoring ten or twelve points in Division 3, I don’t think you are going to win too many matches, so you will need to be getting 1-13, 1-14 up around the 15, 16 points if you are to win any game in Division 3 and it is a step-up, they are capable of doing it”.

He added “They have plenty of good forwards there as they have shown in the past and definitely they need a little bit more emphasis on the forward line”.

We have live commentary of the game here on KCLR from 2pm on Sunday on our Carlow frequencies.
