An open Leinster Rugby training session will be held at Carlow’s Oak Park grounds ahead of the August Bank Holiday weekend.
Carlow Rugby Club will host the Blues at 1.15pm on Thursday 2 August with a full Leinster squad expected to be on the pitch.
After the open training session, supporters and rugby enthusiasts will get the opportunity to meet and greet players, take photos and hunt autographs.
Along with being historic double-winning champions, Leinster players also dominated Ireland’s 2018 Grand Slam team and more recently, Ireland’s winning side in Australia. Of the 44 players in Leinster’s senior squad, 24 have also donned the green of Ireland.
Players including Johnny Sexton, Tadgh Furlong, James Ryan, Cian Healy, Garry Ringrose, Robbie Henshaw, Dan Leavy and Sean O’Brien are all rated as world class and the Oakpark event will be an opportunity to see them up close.
Leinster training for the 2018-19 season resumed on 20th June with Irish players due back on 29th July.
The Leinster visit will also give the people of Carlow the opportunity to meet the locally born boys who are making waves for their Province.
Alongside Tullow’s Sean O’Brien, Carlow twins Ed and Bryan Byrne are represented along with Ballon native Tom Daly. Daly has captained Ireland’s 7s squad. Although locked into the front row of the scrum the Byrne brothers are proving prolific try scorers for Leinster.
Another Leinster prop Andrew Porter is the son of Ernie Porter who won a Towns Cup medal with Carlow in 1976.
