Carlow man Ed Byrne will not be available for selection for Leinster for their second-round game of the Heineken Champions Cup against Northampton this Saturday at 1 pm in the RDS.

Ed picked up a calf injury during the Autumn nations cup campaign with Ireland a few weeks back.

The Leinster injury list is getting longer after Conor O’Brien suffered an ACL injury in training last week and will now undergo a procedure before starting a lengthy period of rehabilitation.

Scott Fardy jarred his knee against Montpellier but is expected to resume full training and be available for selection this week.

Johnny Sexton picked up a dead leg against Scotland and was selected to start against Montpellier but his leg tightened up after the Captain’s Run and he wasn’t risked. He will be further assessed this week before a final decision is made.

Garry Ringrose is in the final stages of his recovery from a jaw injury and will be further assessed this week before a final decision is made on his availability for selection.

On the list of unavailable players are Ed Byrne (calf), James Lowe (groin), Tadhg Furlong (calf), Tommy O’Brien (ankle), Jack Conan (neck), Max Deegan (knee), Jordan Larmour (shoulder), Vakh Abdaladze (back) and Adam Byrne (hamstring).

Leinster Rugby will host Northampton Saints in round two this Saturday in the RDS Arena at 1.00 pm.
