Carlow’s Jasmine Byrne claims World Championship

From Ballinabranna, Carlow to Cluj-Napoca, Romania, Jasmine Byrne certainly had a busy weekend.

The martial artist fighting out of Ballinabranna Karate club became the Open weight senior WUKF World Champiionship.

Ten medals went to Ireland at the competition, of which three ended up around the neck of Byrne. One Bronze for a team rotation event, one Silver for the Kata event and One Gold for the Kumite event. Sandra Ramos from Mexico claimed silver behind Byrne. In 2022 the Championship will head across the Atlantic to Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

Next stop for Byrne though will be the WUKF 4 Gala on October 30th. The event will bring together some of the best athletes for an exciting evening of Full Contact Karate and exceptional Kata performances. Here she will go up against Aleksandra Zgorecka from Poland in what will be the first female Kumite match in the history of WUKF.

You can grab tickets to the PPV or event live right here.
