Carlow’s Padraig Amond starts, as Newport County push for promotion

Newport County did their promotion aspirations huge favours last night with a victory over Forest green.

The two sides went head to head in the first leg of their play-off semi final. Newport had the home advantage as the game was play at Rodney Park, also home of fellow local rugby side, Newport RFC. Luckily fans were allowed to enter the stadium for the first time in a year. 900 in total got to go thru the turnstiles and cheer their club on, and despite huge restrictions, they managed to create a big atmosphere.

Padraig Amond started the game and played the full 90 minutes before making way to Nickey Maynard. At this stage the job was done. Matthew Dolan scored a genuine goal of the season contender on the 36th minute to give The Exiles the lead going into half time. Lewis Collins made it 2-0 on the 56th minute, and the job was done.

Fans erupt for Newports second goal…..and it’s a screamer!

Newport will now travel for the second leg tie to The New Lawn stadium in Gloucestershire. If they win a trip to Wembley is on the cards with the winner facing either Tranmere or Morecambe.

Us in Scoreline will be cheering Padraig & Newport on come Sunday, we wouldn’t mind a day out in Wembley ourselves.
