If Shane Kavanagh and Eddie Coady hurled for any big name county you can be sure that their retirement story would go viral.
The two lads slipped away from the county scene quietly after giving a combined service of over 32 years to the Carlow Senior Hurlers.
Eddie was a regular in the number 5 jersey while Shane was a pillar in defence alongside him since graduating straight on to the Senior team at centre back from the minor ranks in 2003.
In 2008 the Irish Shinty Team’s half back line consisted of Tommy Walsh, Shane Kavanagh and Sean Og O’Hailpin.
And yes Kavanagh was centre half back with two of the games all time greats either side of him!
That will tell you just how good Kavanagh was and he also captained Ireland to victory that year.
Eddie Coady was singled out for some serious praise by Tommy Walsh last year for his performances with the Leinster interprovincial side so again this proves the talent that these guys had.
The two lads aren’t the type to look for attention but on Saturday we paid tribute to them for all their years service and you can listen back to what was a very entertaining and enjoyable conversation below.
