The annual Hurling For Cancer Research fundraiser in aid of the Irish Cancer Society returns to St. Conleth’s Park, Newbridge tonight for the first time since 2019.
A wealth of sport stars including some of the country’s top hurlers and racing stars will line out for a must-see battle between Davy Russell’s Best and Jim Bolger’s Stars.
The final panels were announced ahead of the weekend, including representatives from both of this year’s All-Ireland senior hurling and camogie champions alongside some of the greatest hurlers in the modern era.
Brian Cody returns to management for the night with Ursula Jacob and local jockey Shane Foley as selectors for Davy Russell’s Best while Liam Griffin will oversee Jim Bolger’s Stars, aided by new Tipperary manager Liam Cahill, Jim Bolger himself and Dave Bernie.
Organised by legendary racehorse trainer Jim Bolger and dual Aintree Grand National-winning jockey Davy Russell, Hurling for Cancer Research has raised over €1.1m for the Irish Cancer Society’s vital cancer research projects since it began in 2012.
Gates open at 4.30pm with entertainment to start before the game itself gets underway at 6pm. If you’re heading along, there is limited free parking available at the Whitewater shopping centre in Newbridge. Tickets are available online in advance at HurlingForCancer.ie though there will also be sales on the gate this evening.
