Former Kilkenny Senior Hurling forward Christy Heffernan says that TJ Reid’s return to the Kilkenny set-up has made a huge difference.
Christy has been speaking to KCLR ahead of Kilkenny v Wexford this weekend.
“He’s always looking, his vision when he gets the ball, he doesn’t want to waste it and no matter who it is he will lay it off to him.
“Overall the whole team are playing a different brand, running with the ball and short passing, granted I don’t like it in defence, it can break down.
Heffernan says the reason why a lot of Hurling Teams have become defensive is because they are setting themselves up to try and stifle Kilkenny.
“Other teams are being very very defensive. The whole plot was to kind of stop Kilkenny by hook or by crook and I was at the games last year that they played and it wasn’t that Kilkenny played bad, it was just that the forwards were strangled because the opposition put so many players behind the ball.
“Then they came with counter attacks, a bit like Soccer, everybody behind the ball and then you move forward on the counter attack and get your point, draw frees and I think the referees are been sucked into that big time,” he said.
