Carlow senior hurling boss Colm Bonnar knows his side need to turn up the heat to beat Laois on Saturday.
It’s the first of a round-about double header against their neighbours with the footballers in action against Laois next weekend.
Speaking to KCLR this week, Bonnar says it’s important that the hurlers are more clinical with their chances on the field.
“We’ll have to lift it another notch or two”, says Bonnar.
“We played well, at times, against Kerry but had to score the last four or five points to come from behind to win it late in the game. It showed great character from the team.”
“Then, with the Meath game, we were kind of hurling within ourselves but still did enough to win. Again it was a late burst near the end of the second half. I think fitness-wise we’re in very good shape and we’ve been working extremely hard as a team, trying to get the results.”
“I think if we can be a bit more clinical now against Laois, it will give us a big helping hand.”
Carlow and Laois renew acquaintances this Saturday at 3pm in O’Moore Park, Portlaoise in roudn 4 of the Joe McDonagh Cup.
