Carlow Senior hurling manager Colm Bonnar says they are working at trying to finish games stronger. His side welcome UCD to Netwatch Cullen Park tonight at 7.30pm and we’ll have full match commentary online exclusively at KCLRFanzone.com with Kevin Regan calling the action.
Speaking to KCLR ahead of their closing Walsh Cup fixture, Colm says they will improve with match practice.
“Yeah, it’s a case of we are trying to get up there and trying to match these teams and for long periods of that Wexford game, we matched everything that Wexford threw at us.
I don’t think the end scoreline reflected the overall play of the Carlow lads and to be fair, they brought the game to Wexford for 40 45 minutes, and that is something that we need to look at, that we can finish games stronger, so even with the Dublin game with 2 or 3 minutes to go, there was only two points in it so we just need to see our games that bit better, but that comes with match practice.”
Carlow opened their Walsh Cup fixtures on 4 January with an away loss to Dublin (2-17 to 1-13) before a spirited second half performance from Wexford saw them head home on the wrong end of a 3-20 to 0-14 scoreline.
“It’s only the second week of January”, says Bonnar, “so it’s important that players get out on the field and they’ve done a lot of pre-season training in terms of strength and conditioning and fitness training, but you can’t beat actual games. It’s about using the panel, giving them game time, and getting the performance levels up for when it matters most like in February against Westmeath”.
Carlow face UCD in their final Walsh Cup fixture this evening with throw-in set for 7.30pm under the lights at Netwatch Cullen Park. We’ll have updates on air during The Frequency:Fully Loaded but you can catch the full game through the player below or check out KCLR Fanzone Live from 7.25pm.
