Colm Whelan shortlisted for PFAI First Division Player of the Year

Thomastown’s Colm Whelan gets first Republic of Ireland U21 call up for international friendlies

Kilkenny’s Colm Whelan’s performances for UCD this season have put him in the running for two end-of-season awards.

The former Thomastown United standout has notched up 19 goals in the SSE Airtricity First Division this year (league), leading the goalscoring charts.

His performances across the season with the students have also seen him don the green jersey for the Republic of Ireland Under 21s.

Whelan finds himself in the running for the overall player award alongside clubmate Liam Kerrigan and Shelbourne’s Ryan Brennan.

There is a potential double on the cards as he’s also been shortlisted for the Head in the Game Young Player of the Year along side Bohs duo Dawson Devoy and Ross Tierney.

Chris Forrester (St. Pat’s), Georgie Kelly (Bohemians) and Roberto Lopes (Shamrock Rovers) are nominated for the 2021 PFA Ireland Player of the Year.
