It is a big weekend for Kilkenny teams with both the minor and senior sides in action.
Saturday brings with it the beginning of the Electric Ireland Leinster Minor Hurling Championship for the Cats, while UPMC Nowlan Park will be the setting for the semi-final of the Allianz National Hurling League Division 1 on Sunday afternoon.
First up is the turn of Niall Bergin’s minor outfit as they begin their provincial campaign with a trip to Portlaoise to take on Laois in the opening round of the provincial championship in Laois Hire O’Moore Park on Saturday at 12pm (Live on KCLR).
Following a disappointing campaign in 2022 that came to an end at the hands of Saturday’s opponents, there will be high hopes that the new season will bring with it rejuvenated performances and results for a strong Kilkenny panel.
Grouped with Laois, Ulster and Galway in Tier 1, finishing in the top three will see Kilkenny advance to the knockout stages while a clean sweep of victories will be enough to secure a semi-final berth.
Brendan Hennessy and two-time All-Ireland winner and KCLR analyst Michael Walsh will be on duty for full exclusive commentary with thanks to Laharts.
Then on Sunday, it’s the highly anticipated encounter between the two most successful counties in the history of the sport as Kilkenny welcome Cork to UPMC Nowlan Park with a place in the league final at stake from 4pm (Live on KCLR).
With both sides in the midst of their first season under new management teams, Derek Lyng and Pat Ryan will be determined to move one-step closer towards their first piece of silverware at the helm of their counties.
Our coverage of that game will begin at 3.30pm, with eight-time All-Ireland winner Aidan ‘Taggy’ Fogarty giving his thoughts ahead of the clash, at half-time and at full-time with thanks to Country Style Foods.
Adrian Ronan and Michael Walsh will be providing full live commentary of the game with thanks to Laharts.
As always, it’s not just live games on KCLR.
Our build-up to the game will begin on Saturday at 4.30pm on Scoreline when renowned pundit and Cork legend Tomás Mulcahy will provide his opinion on both teams seasons to date and preview Sunday’s match.
There will also be post-match reaction from all teams across the weekend on KCLR.
