Countdown Clogh: Kilkenny boxer Brandon McCarthy transitions to professional ranks

From Ulster Boxing Council X

Brandon McCarthy, the accomplished Clogh boxer, has revealed his transition into the professional ranks following a highly successful career as an amateur.

Announcing via Instagram, the 23-year-old North Kilkenny native, boasting an impressive record of 16 National Titles and European and World Championships at various levels during his amateur tenure, believes the moment is opportune to pursue his lifelong dream in the professional arena.

Currently honing his skills at the Churchill Matchroom Boxing Gym in Los Angeles, McCarthy is gearing up for his professional debut, with details to be announced shortly. Stay tuned for updates on this exciting new chapter in McCarthy’s boxing journey.

Brandon McCarthy was widely recognized in boxing circles as a ‘future Olympian,’ however once McCarthy’s dream of participating in Paris 2024 became unattainable, it lead him to refocus his aspirations on the professional arena where he is currently undergoing training at the Churchill Matchroom Boxing Gym in Los Angeles.

Reflecting on his remarkable amateur journey, McCarthy expressed gratitude for his achievements when speaking to Irish-Boxing.com, stating, “I’ve had a great amateur career, with 16 National Titles and championships at every level. I competed at European and World Championships across various levels, facing top-tier opponents worldwide. I’ve encountered every style possible, gaining invaluable experience along the way. All of this will undoubtedly translate as I step into the professional ranks.”

While McCarthy acknowledges the initial disappointment of not achieving his Olympic dream, he is now embracing the larger perspective and looks forward with excitement to pursuing world titles in his new professional venture. McCarthy expressed his evolving mindset, saying, “I feel now that this is made for me and this is where I was supposed to be.”

So with McCarthy is gearing up for his professional debut, details are set to be announced in the near future.
