One of the most hotly contested derby matches in Leinster Rugby is about to be spiced up yet another notch.
When Carlow and Tullow Rugby teams meet on Sunday 8th December next in Division 1B of the Leinster League they will also be competing for a new trophy; known as the Carpe Diem Cup
So along with League points and bragging rights the local rivals will also be desperately striving to be the first club to grab this brand new cup for their trophy cabinet.
The Carpe Diem Cup has been sponsored by Tullow supporter John Colgan, owner of the Tara Arms Hotel in Tullow and the Carpe Diem Bar in Carlow, both well known venues for rugby players and supporters.
The new competition was announced at a function last week in Carpe Diem which was attended by leading officials from Tullow and Carlow RFCs. The inaugural game on Dec 8th 2019 will take place at Tullow’s Blackgates with the game rotating between Clubs in subsequent years.
The arrival of the new trophy was welcomed by Tullow Club President Paddy Browne and Carlow counterpart Edel Gibbons.
