Craig Breen is revving up for 2018.
Following a decent run in 2017, the South-Kilkenny native has confirmed via Facebook on Wednesday that he’s back in the drivers seat with team Citroen Total Abu Dhabi for the 2018 season.
“Happy to say next year we are back with the Citroen Total Abu Dhabi World Rally Team. It comes with some disappointment however, as unfortunately circumstances mean that we can’t do the full season.
We will unfortunately miss Mexico, Corsica and Space.
We are still incredibly honoured and excited to be part of the team for next season, and I would like to that Sheikh Khalid and Yves for putting their trust in me once again.
Bring on Monte!”
It had been reported in November that nine-time WRC Champion Sebastian Loeb would be returning to the World Rally Championship, linked at the time to a part-time programme with Citroen Total Abu Dhabi. Loeb will likely take on Mexico with Breen sitting out, the former world champion having won the event six times in a row.
This year’s championship will be launced at Autosport International in January before Round 1 commences in Monte-Carlow on 25 January.
From there it’s on to Sweden (15-18 February), Mexico (8-11 March), France (5-8 April), Argentina (26-29 April), Portugal (17-20 May) and Italy (7-10 June).
Following the midseaon break, racing resumes in Finland (26-29 July) then moves to Germany (16-19 August), Turkey (13-16 September), Great Britain (4-7 October), Spain (25-28 October) and finishes out in Australia (15-18 November).
