Some people prefer to have the sandwiches and tea out the back of the car on game day – some prefer to bring them in to Croker.
I tend to fall into the latter category. The jacket in the bag, the sun cream, a few sandwiches for the troops, all the usual bits and bobs into the back pack and away you go.
From this Sunday, however, it’s all change, so if you’re off to the Leinster Final or heading to Coldplay or U2, it’s worth taking note.
In the same way we’ve seen changes to the size of bags allowed at the 3 Arena in Dublin for recent concerts, Croke Park have made a review of safety procedures around what can be brought in to the venue for matches and concerts and large bags and backpacks are taking the hit. As and from 25 June, bags no bigger than A4 in size (8.27in/21cm × 11.7/ 29.7cm) will be permitted.
Bags may also be searched on entry to matches and concerts and as such Croke Park are advising an arrival time of at least one hour before throw-in time to allow for security checks and queuing. Plastic bags are allowed, but again, can’t be any larger than A4 in size (no large Dunnes or SuperValu bags). If a person attending a match or concert does not wish to give consent for a search to take place, Croke Park have the right to refuse admission.
Flags, banners and poles (including selfie sticks) are also on the banned items list for match day.
