Kilkenny jockey Danny Mullins had had one of the best days of his career on Kemboy when he won the Paddy Power Irish Gold Cup at the Dublin Racing Festival at Leopardstown back in February.
Trainer Willie Mullins will look to add to a day one tally of five winners at the Punchestown Festival later when he saddles favourite ‘Al Boum Photo’ in the race which goes to post at 5.55 pm.
The going is yielding and in all, there are eight races on the day two card, with the first of them underway at 3.40 pm.
Danny Mullins and Kemboy will reunite for the Gold Cup and Mullins is quietly confident of another big run after a disappointing outing at Cheltenham.
“Yeah definitely you know Kemboy had that blip in Cheltenham but he just doesn’t seem to enjoy Cheltenham, he loves it around here in Punchestown, that famous day where the race was last won and Ruby (Walsh) retired,” said Danny.
“You know if the same result could come our way it would be great, it’s a very competitive race, but he’s definitely one of the handful there that can win it”.
Colreevy
Yesterday, Danny Mullins won the Grade 1 Dooley Insurance Champion Novice Chase when the Willie Mullins trained mare Colreevy defeated a field of three rivals that included Monkfish and Envoi Allen.
Speaking after the race, Danny said he was delighted to land another big race victory.
“Yeah a really tough mare, she’s unbeaten over fences, she stepped up all the way, she was thrown in at the deep end at Christmas and beat the geldings, went back and won two nice mares chases in Thurles and the Cheltenham Festival and deserved her crack at this race, it was probably a billing of the two titans of Monkfish and Envoi Allen,” said Mullins.
“I knew looking through the race with the way she’d performed all year that it was going to be bang there with it and thankfully she showed her true colours and she’s a proper one and I’m glad to be on her back” he added.
