Under 21 Football Championship ‘A’ Semi-finals
A polished performance from Jordan Morrissey and a solid display from Eire Og under 21 footballers saw them qualify for the final with a five point point win over Palatine at Netwatch Cullen Park.
Palatine led by 1-3 to 0-5 at half time, thanks to an opportunist goal from Daragh Fitzpatrick.
However the reigning champions quickly turned matters around in the second half and scored 4-3 to Palatine’s 1-6.
Jordan Morrissey finished with a personal tally of 2-5 as Eire Og won 4-8 to 2-9.
In the second semi-final Michael Davitts worked extremely hard and were worthy of their three point win over Tinryland.
Leading from start to finish Davitts held a slender one point lead 0-5 to 0-4 at half time as Tinryland saw Cian McDonald deny them a goal from the penalty spot with a super save.
In the second period goals from Darren Lunney and Aaron Amond at vital stages helped Davitts to victory even though they had to withstand a huge challenge from the Tinryland men led by John Murphy in the closing stages.
Final score, Michael Davitts 2-7, Tinryland 0-10.
And Eire Og and Michael Davitts will meet next weekend in the 2018 Under 21 Football Championship ‘A’ final
The quarter finals of the Under 21 Football ‘B’ championship are on this evening.
Naomh Eoin play Kildavin-Clonegal in Myshall at 7pm, Ballon take on St. Patricks in Tinryland at 6pm and St. Andrews take on Clonmore in The Training Centre Fenagh at 7pm.
On a separate note one Great Comedian of the past Hal Roche always used to say ‘Write It Down’
Old Leighlin were playing senior football league division 5 recently against neighbours Leighlinbridge in Ballinaboley when one of the well known Old Leighlin players Marin Lynch gave the foot ball a mighty kick and aided by the strong gale force wind the ball sailed over the bar as the spectators stood in awe.
You might say what was unusual about that?
Well Martin was about fifty five yards out although in Netwatch Cullen Park yesterday evening the the distance had increased to about sixty six or seventy yards out.
Congratulations Martin it’s one worthy of being written down!
