The People’s Champion.

That’s how many remember Danoli, one of the biggest names in Irish horse racing in the 90s.

With the passing of trainer Tom Foley this week following a battle with cancer, we’re remembering Foley and the horse he trained to such great heights in Danoli.

Originally broadcast in 2015, Mad About Danoli was produced by KCLR’s Monica Hayes, with support from the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland through the television licence fee. ells the story of the horse trained by Tom Foley and owned by Dan O’Neill, both hailing from Carlow.

Danoli won the hearts of people with his strength and bravery on the race track, taking honours at all the big races in Ireland and the UK over his career, including Cheltenham and Aintree.

The story of how he was bought, the highs and lows of his career, his retirement and death were told for the first time in this documentary, featuring both Foley and O’Neill.
