Amy Dooley in action

By Michael O’Leary

Old Leighlin based Basketballer Amy Dooley says that Basketball in Ireland has improved greatly in recent years.

Speaking to KCLR on Saturday’s Scoreline, Amy who plays with the Portlaoise Panthers says the Sport has come on in Ireland despite the fact that it’s self-funded.

“The Irish Basketball has improved so much in the last couple of years through the programmes like, it’s improved like. Even with the lads too they have also improved with, but you see like the Germany’s and you see the Netherlands and you can see they have money pumped into their thing too.

“We are kind of restricted that way, it’s all self-funded Basketball Ireland, but we still have really good competition like.

“The Under-18s came 2nd in European B, that’s an amazing achievement for such a little country so you can tell that the passion is there too with the Basketball in Ireland,” she said.
