Kilkenny U21 hurling manager Eddie Brennan says the younger members within the the senior squad ranks need to be more vocal.
Eddie was speaking to KCLR ahead of next Wednesday’s Leinster Under-21 Semi-Final against Westmeath, and he says that the same players shouldn’t be leading Kilkenny the whole time.
“It would be hard if TJ Reid or Richie Hogan, Paul Murphy guys like that have to constantly lead”, says Brennan.
“I know when we were there, there was numerous guys that were well able to stand up and take on the challenge, and that was the beauty of it. Sometimes lads can be afraid to be open or honest when they are maybe a year or so into a new group.”
“I just think some of the newer, younger guys have to really have a go here and not be afraid to be themselves and not wait till they’re in there two or three years. They are the ones that will make the difference, and lead the charge and help the older guys too.”
Kilkenny’s U21s face Westmeath at TEG Cusack Park, Mullingar, on Wednesday 21 June at 7.30pm, that game live on KCLR. Kilkenny’s senior hurlers have another few weeks to wait to find out who they’ll be facing in their first round qualifier for this year’s All Ireland Senior Hurling Championship.
