There is no doubt about the future being bright in the Marble City Boxing Club after their recent few weeks with Leinster Championship action.
The Club traveled to Portlaoise for the Leinster Youth Championships. Expectations were high with the talent this group of boxers possess. They didn’t fail to deliver.
8 boxers traveled and 5 titles returned courtesy of Cian Stapleton, Josh Dowling, Scott Delaney, Philip Carthy, and Jack Johnson. Tommy Fitzpatrick and Tommy Carthy reached the finals and came away with silver medals, on another day these could have easily been crowned champions too.
Finn Cantwell was beaten in the semi-finals on a split decision with his opponent eventually going on to win gold. These 5 boxers have now firmly set their sights on National Honours with the All Ireland Championships starting next week in Portlaoise.
This past weekend in Enniscorthy saw the club contest the Leinster Juvenile championships. The club entered 6 boxers, all first-time debutants getting their first taste of championship boxing. The experience was what the club hoped these boxers would learn while competing, however with the nature of the club being so successful and their reputation for winning titles, experience didn’t quite satisfy this group of boxers.
Adam Delaney, Sarah Johnson, and Breanna Kelly all had their hands raised on multiple occasions over the past three weekends to be crowned Leinster champions. Ricky Carthy was narrowly beaten in his Leinster final after four tough fights. Miroslav Holtsov and Kasper Gorski were narrowly beaten after delivering good performances.
Another fantastic championship for the club with 8 boxers in total now qualifying to compete for National titles.
