An injury to Kilkenny’s Ellen Molloy has put her return to the Irish senior women’s team on hold.
Molloy was helped off the pitch in the closing minutes of Sunday’s FAI Women’s Cup victory over Shelbourne.
On the pitch, it looked like a potential hamstring injury with the youngster going to ground while racing through on goal as Wexford hunted a fourth before the final whistle.
Her removal from the Ireland squad for this Thursday’s World Cup qualifier against Slovakia was confirmed on Monday afternoon.
Celtic’s Isibeal Atkinson and Birmingham City forward Emily Whelan have also received call-ups with Leanne Kiernan and Claire Walsh also being withdrawn due to injury. Vera Pauw has also drafted in 16-year-old defender Jessie Stapleton (Shelbourne) along wth Brighton’s Megan Walsh.
The English-born keeper (Walsh) qualifies through her Wexford-born grandfather and goes straight into the squad for this week’s World Cup qualifiers with Slovakia and Georgia (Tuesday).
Both games take place at Tallagh Stadium.
