Evergreen FC are your 2021 Pat Maher Shield winners in Kilkenny following a convincing victory over Freebooters A on Wednesday evening.
With the sun splitting the stones, the teams took to Derdimus Park on the Callan road to play out the first of this summer’s cup finals.
Evergreen were off the mark with a half-hour gone in the first half, Mikey Drennan firing home a left-footed volley off the underside of the cross bar to open the game’s scoring and it would stay that way to the break.
All over here in Derdimus Park and an impressive 4-1 win takes the Maher Shield home to the Kells Road! 2 for @mikeydrennan and 1 each for @markieslater and Lee Delaney. Highlights tomorrow but goal of the game to come shortly!

Despite being a relatively evenly contested fixture throughout the first half and into the second, it was all over with a quarter of an hour to play thanks to three goals in five minutes from Evergreen.
Drennan struck his second, this time from the penalty spot on 73 minutes, Lee Delaney adding a third with a header at the back post two minutes later.
Mark Slater, having nabbed a fine goal for himself in the McCalmont Cup quarter finals against Fort Rangers at the weekend put the nail in the coffin, firing home on 78 minutes to ensure the victory.
