Republic of Ireland Amateur International Team Manager Gerry Davis has named a 20-man squad (Wednesday) for an international friendly against the Basque Region ahead of this summer’s Regions Cup.
Jack Funge (Crumlin United), Conor Coughlan (Fairview Rangers), Alan McGreal (Crumlin United) and Kilkenny’s own Evergreen’s Lee Delaney have all received their first call-ups to the Ireland Amateur International team. Ireland will play the Basque Region at Estadio de Lasesarre in Barakaldo on Tuesday, 2 May at 6.30pm Irish time.
“This game will be great preparation for the upcoming Regions Cup. We’ll be using Athletic Bilbao’s training centre and the Basque Region, who have been a great help in setting up the fixture, will be an ideal opposition ahead of the tournament where we face Galicia in the first game”, says Republic of Ireland Amateur International Team Manager Gerry Davis.
“We’ve had great support from the FAI to get the training camp and we’re really looking forward to the opportunity. It is a chance for the players to shine and put themselves in the shop window for the final tournament squad. There are some players not in this squad who will be in contention and we’ll have another camp before the final squad is announced but we’re really looking forward to the game.”
